How to Set Up GeoCeptor Companion for System-Wide iOS GPS Spoofing

By Vincent Wackler•Sep 2, 2026•6 min read

While the GeoCeptor Safari Extension offers zero-setup in-browser location spoofing on iOS without any computers or cables, many users need system-wide GPS simulation across all native iOS applications for app testing, navigation QA, and development workflows.

With GeoCeptor Companion for macOS, you can turn your Mac into a secure location driver that sets hardware-level GPS coordinates on your iPhone or iPad. Once paired, simulated coordinates stay active even after unplugging the cable, working seamlessly over your local Wi-Fi network.

What You'll Need

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or LaterYour Mac acts as the companion driver for your iPhone or iPad location engine.
GeoCeptor for iOS / iPadOSRequires iOS/iPadOS 15 or later. The mobile app controls coordinates and routes (requires GeoCeptor Pro subscription).
USB Data CableRequired for the initial secure handshake and Developer Mode activation.
Apple Developer Tools (Free)Command Line Tools or Xcode is used to mount Apple's Developer Disk Image (no paid Apple Developer account needed).

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Follow these 6 simple steps to pair your Mac with your iPhone. Setup takes approximately 2 minutes and only needs to be completed once.

1

Install & Launch GeoCeptor Companion

Download GeoCeptorCompanion.dmg, open the disk image, and drag the app into your Applications folder. Launch it from Spotlight or Launchpad—it will appear in your top macOS menu bar with an interactive onboarding wizard.

2

Prepare Apple Developer Tools & Engine

GeoCeptor uses Apple's official Developer Tools to mount the device location driver. When prompted, click Install Tools or run the terminal command below:

xcode-select --install

Note: You do not need a paid Apple Developer subscription. The standard free command line tools are completely sufficient.

3

Connect iPhone via USB & Tap "Trust"

Plug your iPhone or iPad directly into your Mac using a data-capable cable (avoid charge-only cables or unpowered hubs). Keep the screen unlocked. When the "Trust This Computer?" dialog appears on your iOS screen, tap Trust and enter your device passcode.

4

Enable Developer Mode on iOS/iPadOS 16+

On iOS/iPadOS 16 or later, Apple requires Developer Mode for system-wide location simulation. It is an official Apple developer capability that requires no jailbreak. iOS/iPadOS 15 is supported through the legacy service and does not include Developer Mode; older releases are not supported by the GeoCeptor iOS app:

  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings ▸ Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll to the bottom, tap Developer Mode, turn the switch ON, and tap Restart.
  3. After your iPhone restarts, unlock it, tap Turn On on the confirmation alert, and enter your passcode.
Developer Disk Image (DDI): GeoCeptor automatically mounts Apple's signed DDI. If iOS prompts for an image update, run xcrun devicectl manage ddis update in Terminal.
5

Pair with 6-Digit PIN & Start Spoofing

GeoCeptor Companion will generate a secure 6-digit PIN. Open the GeoCeptor iOS app on your iPhone or iPad, tap Pair Companion, and enter the PIN. Your devices will establish an encrypted handshake.

Now, select any city, GPS coordinates, or custom GPX walking route in the mobile app. All native apps on your iPhone will immediately reflect your simulated location!

Wireless Wi-Fi Simulation

Once paired over USB, you can unplug the cable. As long as your Mac and iPhone remain connected to the same Wi-Fi network (or your iPhone's Personal Hotspot), you can continue setting custom locations and routes wirelessly from anywhere in your home or office.

To restore genuine factory GPS, click Reset Location in GeoCeptor Companion or simply reboot your iPhone.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Why is the Developer Mode option missing in iPhone Settings?+

Developer Mode applies to iOS/iPadOS 16 or later. Apple conceals it until an iPhone or iPad is plugged into a Mac via a USB data cable. Ensure your device is unlocked, connected directly to your Mac, and trusted. Once plugged in, the menu will appear at the bottom of Settings ▸ Privacy & Security. iOS/iPadOS 15 is supported through the legacy service and does not show this setting.

Pro Tip: After toggling Developer Mode ON, your iPhone or iPad will reboot. Unlock and tap Turn On to complete.
Do I need a paid Apple Developer account or custom certificates?+

No! Apple Developer Mode and Developer Disk Images (DDIs) are completely free, standard features of iOS and macOS. You do not need to pay Apple's $99/year developer fee or configure provisioning certificates.

Does Companion work across all native iOS applications?+

Yes. Because GeoCeptor Companion operates at the iOS CoreLocation kernel subsystem level, all native apps read the simulated GPS coordinates for location testing and debugging workflows.

What is the pricing model for GeoCeptor Companion?+

The GeoCeptor Companion macOS application is a free download. Controlling and setting system-wide location simulation requires an active GeoCeptor Pro subscription on the iOS app.
